## Amazon Kindle Paperwhite (16 GB, newest model)

Our rating: 9.0 out of 10.

Best for: Travelers and anyone who reads near water

The Paperwhite is the sweet spot for most serious readers and the all-rounder pick of this lineup. The 7-inch screen has a higher contrast ratio and turns pages 25% faster than the previous generation, and the ultra-thin body makes it feel more premium in hand than the price suggests.

A single USB-C charge stretches up to 12 weeks, which is enough that most people simply forget it needs charging until a low-battery notice reminds them. The step up over the base Kindle buys you that bigger display plus real waterproofing, which is exactly why it is our pick for travel, beach days, and reading in the tub without worry.

It is heavier and pricier than the base Kindle, and it is still a black-and-white, stylus-free device, so do not expect color or handwriting here. For the step up over the base model, though, the upgrade is easy to justify.

## Amazon Kindle Scribe Colorsoft (32 GB, newest model)

Our rating: 8.0 out of 10.

Best for: Note-takers who want a big color e-paper canvas

This is the Kindle for people who want to write, sketch, and read on one large surface instead of juggling a notebook and a separate e-reader. It is the most advanced Kindle yet, built around a custom oxide-based 11-inch Colorsoft display that shows high-contrast, paper-like color rather than the washed-out tint some early color e-paper struggled with.

The textured screen and included Premium Pen, which needs no charging of its own, make handwriting feel close to pen on paper, and the built-in notebook plus AI tools give it real utility beyond straight reading. At just 5.4mm thin and 400g, it is impressively portable given an 11-inch display and 32GB of storage.

The honest costs are real ones. It is far more expensive than the other two Kindles here, and it carries a lower review rating than the cheaper, more proven models, which likely reflects how new and ambitious the product is. If handwriting and color are must-haves, it is worth that risk; if not, save the money.
