## Samsung T7 1TB

Our rating: 9.0 out of 10.

Best for: Everyday users who want a dependable, widely trusted drive.

The T7 is the safe, popular pick for good reason. PCIe NVMe speeds up to 1,050 MB/s make it roughly twice as fast as older external hard drives, and the shock-resistant design takes a knock without a second thought.

It earns the everyday pick here on a longer shipping record than the newer drives: it has been on sale since 2020 with no field-failure advisory against it. It is not as fast as the T9 and lacks that drive's dedicated thermal hardware, so long sustained transfers are more likely to slow down.

For backups, photo libraries and general file shuffling, none of that matters much. It is more than enough drive for most people, and five years on sale without a recall is the kind of record a newer drive cannot have yet.

## Samsung T9 1TB

Our rating: 9.0 out of 10.

Best for: Creators who want fast, sustained transfers in a tough little drive.

The T9 is the one to get if your transfers are long, not just bursty. Its Dynamic Thermal Guard keeps the drive from overheating and throttling during sustained creative loads, so the up to 2,000 MB/s rating actually holds up under real work instead of only appearing in the first few seconds of a benchmark.

It is rugged yet still compact enough to pocket, and USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 speeds put it well ahead of older external drives, which is what earns it the rugged pick here. Compatibility is broad too, spanning desktops, cameras and recent iPhones.

The catch is that you need a Gen 2x2 port to actually see that top speed, and at this price it is a 1TB drive only, so heavy video shooters may outgrow it. For sustained real-world transfers, though, it is the standout of this lineup.
