Our take on each
Dell 27 Plus 4K Monitor (S2725QS)
Best for: A home office or student desk that wants sharp 4K text, smooth scrolling and light gaming on one 27-inch screen for under $300.
The Dell 27 Plus 4K is the monitor to buy when the job is everything at once: documents, browsing, photos and the occasional game. A 27-inch 4K panel puts about 163 pixels into every inch, which makes small text noticeably crisper than the 1440p screens that used to fill this price slot. Dell runs it at up to 120Hz with AMD FreeSync Premium, so scrolling and cursor movement look smoother than on a 60Hz office monitor.
Color and brightness suit general work. Dell rates the IPS panel at 99% sRGB, 350 nits typical brightness and 1500:1 contrast, which is plenty for a lit room and fine for casual photo editing, though not wide-gamut video work. The stand adjusts for height, tilt, swivel and pivot into portrait, and a 100 x 100 VESA mount takes an arm.
The gaps are connectivity and HDR. Inputs are two HDMI 2.1 ports and one DisplayPort 1.4, with no USB-C, so a laptop needs a cable or dock instead of one-cable charging and video. At 350 nits, HDR will not look like HDR on an OLED. Our tracked price since June 26 has run from $218.49 to $294.99.
MSI MPG 321URXW QD-OLED
Best for: A buyer with a high-end graphics card who wants one 32-inch screen for 4K gaming, HDR films and laptop work over USB-C.
The MPG 321URXW is the monitor that removes the usual choice between sharpness and speed. It pairs a 31.5-inch 3840 x 2160 Quantum Dot OLED panel with a 240Hz refresh rate and 0.03ms response: as sharp as the Dell and as fast as the LG.
Color is the other upgrade. MSI rates the panel at 10-bit with 99% DCI-P3 coverage and Delta E of 2 or lower, wide enough for HDR video and photo work, and it carries DisplayHDR True Black 400 certification. The ports make it a laptop dock too: USB-C with 90 W power delivery, HDMI 2.1, DisplayPort 1.4a and a KVM switch for sharing one keyboard and mouse.
MSI covers OLED burn-in under a 3-year warranty and adds OLED Care 2.0 software to reduce image retention. The limits are practical. Driving 4K at 240 frames per second takes a top-tier graphics card, and most games will run well below that. QD-OLED panels look grayer in a brightly lit room than in a dim one. Our tracked price since June 26 has run from $731.99 to $899.99.
